Program Description

Brewing Technology is a dynamic program that is designed to meet the needs of each student as well as the needs of West Virginia’s craft brewing industry. The program takes a hands on approach, to teach students the science and art that drives the brewing industry in West Virginia.

 

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Critique various beer styles according to BJCP Guidelines.
  • Use appropriate ingredients and equipment to produce craft beer.
  • Apply basic scientific knowledge and techniques to optimize various aspects of the brewery including wort production, fermentation, and environmental sustainability.
  • Differentiate craft breweries and non-craft breweries.
  • Evaluate various beers for things such as quality, style, and off flavors. 
  • Independently create recipes and process diagrams to produce various beer styles.
