Program Description

The field of criminal justice involves the three components of the criminal justice system: police, courts, and corrections. The academic discipline also includes study of the juvenile justice system and the extent and causes of crime among adults and juveniles. Criminal Justice is an exciting and interesting discipline that can lead to attractive and worthwhile careers.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Summarize the major components of the criminal justice system and the role each plays in creating a cohesive system for adults and juveniles in the US.
  2. Differentiate between the major approaches regarding drug use, abuse, legislation and enforcement of laws within the components of the criminal justice system.
  3. Discuss the social, cultural, racial, gender and political variables associated with trends in crime.
  4. Demonstrate appropriate in field job market competencies, to include employment trends, testing, and hiring practices.

Assessment Methods

Program Outcomes are assessed in targeted courses on specific assignments, as well as the institution’s General Education Assessment.
