Program Description

The Diesel Technology, CAS program is a fast turnaround one-year program that prepares graduates as diesel technicians for both on and off highway equipment. The program focuses on the major components of typical diesel systems including system electronics, engines, engine inspection, suspension, steering, drivetrain, brakes as well as hydraulic systems.

This program offers individuals the opportunity to complete all program courses on site at BridgeValley Community & Technical College or transfer diesel technology credit from various career technical centers with similar programs. Credit may also be transferred from individuals completing industry training from Caterpillar, Komatsu, Cummins, Detroit, or similar companies. Individuals completing industry-based training must confer with the program advisor for credit equivalency.

  • Describe the operation and components of a diesel engine
  • Evaluate and perform basic service operations on steering and suspension systems
  • Evaluate and perform basic service operations on hydraulic and pneumatic brake systems
  • Diagnose and repair automotive electrical systems
