MACH - 141 Metallurgy and Machining Theory 7 This course is a continuation of MACH 131 and provides students with advanced skills on conventional equipment along with a survey of materials, their physical properties, and the theoretical and practical aspects of machining processes. Topics include ferrous and non-ferrous materials, mechanical and physical properties, material selection, material identification, hardening, tempering, annealing, stress relief, machinability, effects of machining, chip formation, abrasives, cutting fluids, grinding fluids, tooling, and tooling materials, Machine maintenance topics are also covered. Students will produce complex parts on a variety of materials to meet specifications and tolerances.
