Program Description

The Associate of Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy is a comprehensive two-year program designed to prepare competent, compassionate, and practice-ready respiratory care professionals. The program provides a balanced education in science, respiratory care principles, and hands-on clinical application to ensure graduates are fully equipped to meet the demands of modern cardiopulmonary care. This program integrates classroom instruction, laboratory simulations, and supervised clinical practice. Students gain progressive competency through advanced training utilizing state-of-the-art equipment, simulation technology, and current industry-standard resources. Coursework includes cardiopulmonary anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, patient assessment, oxygen management, mechanical ventilation, diagnostics, emergency and critical care, and therapeutic procedures. Graduates will be prepared to take certification exams and become licensed to work in various healthcare settings, including hospitals, clinics, and home care.

Student Learning Outcomes

1. Demonstrate competence in performing all diagnostic and therapeutic procedures required of an entry-level respiratory therapist.

2. Communicate effectively within inter-professional teams and with diverse populations both verbally and through writing.

3. Demonstrate critical thinking skills and competence in the application of problem-solving strategies in the healthcare setting.

PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. Pre-program admission courses with asterisks “*” are required for the program.
  2. A grade of “C” or better is required in all BIOL and RESP courses.
