Program Description

The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Health Sciences provides students with a strong foundation in the biological, physical, and social sciences while introducing the principles, practices, and ethics of healthcare. This flexible, interdisciplinary program prepares graduates for  entry-level roles in a variety of health-related fields or for transfer into advanced study in allied health, public health, or related disciplines. Students gain practical knowledge in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, health and wellness, and the U.S. healthcare system, while developing critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills essential for success in healthcare environments.
 


For maximum credit flexibility, pre-major students who are not accepted into their desired selective-admission program may be eligible to transfer to the Board of Governors, AAS program if they have not previously earned an associate-level credential at any institution of higher education and meet all other Board of Governors, AAS admission requirements.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate client advocacy for selected populations in healthcare environments
  2. Promote disease prevention to improve healthcare outcomes of clients in their care
  3. Utilize critical thinking in developing solutions within healthcare environments
  4. Apply effective communication methods when interacting with others in the healthcare system

Program Requirements


PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. Associate-level programs require a minimum of 60 hours of credit. It is the responsibility of the student to select an appropriate combination of restricted electives to meet the minimum credit hour requirement.
  2. Minimum grade requirements vary within selective-admission programs. Students pursuing selective-admission programs are encouraged to review minimum grade requirements within those programs.
