Program Description

The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) degree is designed for entry-level students pursuing careers in the HVACR industries, as well as experienced technicians in need of upgrade training. The program focuses on the basic operating principles of commercial and industrial HVACR systems. These principles are presented through lecture and laboratory exercises in a step-by-step fashion by addressing refergeration, heating, distribution, filtration, and control as individual subsystems. This program prepares students to enter the HVACR industry as apprentices with knowledge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. A certification exam is offered for the EPA Section 608 Technician Certification and WV HVAC license.

Program Learning Outcomes

  1. Explain the refrigeration cycle and system operation principles
  2. Apply electrical and mechanical concepts to HVAC components
  3. Service and maintain standard HVAC systems
  4. Test and verify refrigerant systems
  5. Evaluate ventilation, refrigeration, and climate control performance against standards
