Program Description
The Skilled Trades Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree is designed for individuals who are currently enrolled in, or have completed, a U.S. Department of Labor–registered apprenticeship program in an approved skilled trade. This degree recognizes the high level of technical training and on-the-job experience gained through apprenticeship and builds upon it with academic coursework to enhance career advancement opportunities.
Students in this program integrate their apprenticeship training with general education to develop leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills essential to the modern workforce. Graduates are prepared for supervisory, management, or advanced technical roles within their chosen trade and related industries.
This degree provides a pathway for skilled trades professionals to combine practical, hands-on expertise with formal academic achievement, strengthening both employability and long-term career growth.
Students must meet the institutional residency requirement of 15 credit hours to graduate.
To be eligible for this program, students must be either:
- Be currently enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship
OR
- Hold a Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship issued by the U.S. Department of Labor
Program Learning Outcomes
- Students will demonstrate completion of a registered U.S. Department of Labor apprenticeship program by providing their official Certificate of Completion of Apprenticeship
- Students will apply advanced techniques during hands-on on-the-job training (OJT).
