Program Description
The Utility Line advanced skill set prepares students to gain employment as line service mechanic trainees or apprentices. Program coverage includes basic communications; basic math; workplace behavior; safety; first aid and CPR; pole climbing with fall protection; pole-top rescue; aerial lift rescue; Class A CDL with pintle hook restriction; operation of bucket trucks, digger derricks, and heavy equipment (skid steer, backhoe, mini excavator); rigging, including rope knots and slings; chainsaw safety; electrical distribution fundamentals; installation and removal of common distribution equipment; and troubleshooting. The advanced skill includes 16-weeks of off campus on- the-job-training experience. Completion of the advanced skill set grants is generally counted as 1000 hours of apprenticeship training.
