Program Description

Instrumentation, Measurement & Control Technology program will develop skills for the installation, maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of systems used to measure and control the flow, level, temperature and pressure in automated industrial processes in the chemical, oil and gas industry. Courses combine technical theory, use of state-of-the-art equipment, and hands-on experience necessary to work in industrial instrumentation fields across the state, and throughout the country, including chemical operations, upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas, petrochemical, and power generation.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Natural Gas Measurement concentration of this program, graduates will be able to:

• Identify physical system characteristics of gathering, processing, transmission, and distribution segments of the natural gas industry.
• Apply flow measurement fundamentals to equipment selection criteria of flow measurement equipment used in the natural gas industry.
• Apply the major sections of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) applicable to natural gas pipelines.
• Apply gas quality fundamentals to equipment selection criteria of gas quality measurement equipment used in the natural gas industry. 
• Differentiate the operating principles and maintenance procedures between pressure limiting & pressure relieving devices. 

Program Assessment

Students in the Natural gas concentration will complete a research paper selecting the proper equipment for several real life operating scenarios.  Students will also complete a presentation of the paper to a committee comprised of instructors and a member of the Industry Advisory Committee. This is required in the Capstone course.
