Program Description
The Utility Line basic skill set prepares students to gain employment as power company line service mechanics through clasroom, field operations, and on-the-job training. Students start by completing a Workforce Basic Skills course. If satisfactorily completed, they continue with an introductory class in Pole Climbing, OSHA 20-hour, and First Aid/CPR/AED. Students desiring to continue then complete courses in Heavy Equipment and Fundamentals of Electrical Distribution. The program is completed with on-the-job instruction provided by power companies. Pre-requisite requirement for admittance into basic skill set program: CDL Class A with a Pintle Hook.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate safe pole climbing techniques.
- Complete road driving test.
- Safely operate equipment.
- Install electrical line service equipment correctly.
- Demonstrate safety protocols associated with electrical distribution.
