Program Description
The Utility Lineman SSA program prepares students to gain employment as power company line service mechanics through classroom, field operations and on the job training. Students start by completing a Workforce Basic Skills course. If satisfactorily completed, they continue with an introductory class in Pole Climbing, OSHA 20 Hour and First Aid/CPR/AED. Students desiring to continue then complete courses in Heavy Equipment, and Fundamentals of Electrical Distribution. The program is completed with On-the-Job instruction provided by power companies. Pre-Requisite requirement for admittance into SSA program: CDL Class A with a Pintle Hook
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate safe pole climbing techniques.
- Complete road driving test.
- Safely operate equipment.
- Install electrical line service equipment correctly.
- Demonstrate safety protocols associated with electrical distribution.
- Apply proper industry practices in an on-the-job environment.
