Program Description
The Welding Technology AAS program prepares graduates to precisely join metal pieces together using different welding methods while adhering to project specifications and safety standards. Students get certifications in OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR/AED. Students continue their training with a basic skills course for the workforce, an introductory computer course, a weld symbol and detail drawing class, and a natural gas industry overview. The two-year AAS program stresses the ability to read and interpret blueprints, strong hand-eye coordination, basic English composition, mathematical calculation skills, knowledge of various welding techniques in stick metal arc (SMAW), gas metal arc (GMAW), flux coil arc (FCAW), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), proficiency in operating welding equipment, physical strength and stamina to handle heavy materials, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of safety protocols when working with extreme heat and metal manipulation. Additional welding certifications include SMAW 3G & 4G Certification, AP 1104 5 or 6G, GMAW 3G & 4G Certification, and AWS D1.1 Equivalent Certification. The Welding Technology program provides students with a solid foundation that will enable them to enter into areas of construction, engineering, manufacturing, heavy equipment repair, plant maintenance, and/or weld engineering if they decide to continue their education.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Perform Gas Metal Arc Welding to Industry Standards.
