Program Description

The Cardiac Sonography, AAS program prepares selected individuals through theory, lab, and clinical experience to practice as echocardiographers in a variety of health care settings. The Cardiac Sonography program is a limited enrollment program. Admission into the program is competitive requiring a minimum GPA of 2.75 to apply for admission. The highest ranked students that meet qualification requirements and deadlines will be admitted first.

Sonography Program Goals

To prepare competent entry-level sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains for the following concentrations:

  • Cardiac Sonography

Program Learning Outcomes

1. Distinguish normal from abnormal sonographic findings relative to cardiac sonography.

2. Interpret the fundamentals of cardiac sonography.

3. Demonstrate ability to independently perform a normal sonographic examination of the heart to include communication and patient care.

4. Demonstrate the ability to independently perform an abnormal sonographic examination of the heart to include communication and patient care.

Program Assessment

The program will periodically assess its effectiveness in achieving its stated goals and learning domains. The results of this evaluation will be reflected in the review and timely revision of the program as needed. Outcomes assessments include, but are not limited to, national credentialing examination performance, programmatic retention/attrition, graduate satisfaction, employer satisfaction, job placement and/or continuing education in a related field.

Pre-Program Admission


PROGRAM NOTES:

  1. Successful completion of DMSU 100 does not guarantee acceptance into the program.
  2. Pre-program admission courses with asterisks “*” are required for the program.
  3. PSYC 101/PSYC 201 may be taken after admission into the program.
  4. A grade of “C” or better must be achieved in all program courses to continue, with the exception of DMSU 230, which allows a repeat in the following fall semester.
