Program Description
The Utility Line Service Mechanic SSB program prepares students to gain employment as power company line service mechanics and/or broadband service mechanics through classroom and field operations. Students get certifications in Class A CDL with Pintle Hook, OSHA 10 and First Aid/CPR/AED. Students continue their training with a workforce basic skills course, an introductory class in pole climbing, heavy equipment, basic fiber optic splicing, underground directional boring and fundamentals of electrical distribution. Pre-Requisite requirement for admittance into SSB skill set: CDL Class A with a Pintle Hook.
Program Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate safe pole climbing techniques.
- Complete road driving test.
- Safely operate equipment.
- Install electrical line service equipment correctly.
- Apply proper industry skills in basic fiber optic splicing and underground directional boring.
