Program Description
The Heating, Ventaliation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) degree is designed for entry-level students pursuing careers in the HVACR industries, as well as experienced technicians in need of upgrade training. The program focuses on the basic operating principles of commercial and industrial HVACR systems. These principles are presented through lecture and laboratory exercises in a step-by-step fashion by addressing refrigeration, heating, distribution, filtration, and controll as individual subsystems. This program prepares students to enter the HVACR industry as apprentices with knoweldge of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. A certification exam is offered for the EPA Section 608 Technician Certification. The certification is a national requirement for all persons handling refrigerants.
Program Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be able to:
- Explain the refrigeration cycle.
- Apply basic electrical principles to evaluate the operation of HVAC systems and components.
- Demonstrate the ability to service standard HVAC controls.
- Perform basic service operations on heat pump systems.
- Charge, evacuate and evaluate the integrity of refrigerant systems.
