Program Description

The Emergency Medical Services Technology, CAS program at BridgeValley CTC is designed to provide students the opportunity to achieve the Emergency Medical Technician Basic certification, complete 20 hours of general education courses, and transition seamlessly into the EMST, AAS degree program and/or obtain employment in the emergency services arena. The program provides students a place to learn the art and science of pre-hospital medicine in a safe, high-tech, controlled environment. 

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate competency in pre-hospital emergency care
  • Apply foundational knowledge and clinical skills to assess, manage, and provide emergency medical care for patients in pre-hospital settings as entry-level Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs)
  • Utilize critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Employ critical thinking and decision-making strategies to evaluate patient conditions, determine appropriate interventions, and adapt to dynamic emergency situation
  • Integrate professionalism and ethical standards
  • Adhere to ethical, legal, and professional standards in emergency medical services, demonstrating effective communication, teamwork, and cultural competence in diverse healthcare environments
  • Prepare for certification and career advancement
  • Complete the EMT Basic Certification exam and be equipped for employment opportunities in emergency medical services or further education in advanced EMS training, such as the EMST, AAS (Paramedic) program
