Program Description

The FAME AMT Skill Set signifies completion of the Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) program, which trains individuals to become skilled Advanced Manufacturing Technicians (AMT), equipping them with a comprehensive set of technical skills, professional behaviors, and practical work experience across various manufacturing disciplines, often through a work-study model with a sponsoring company; essentially, it certifies someone as a highly qualified entry-level manufacturing technician ready for the modern manufacturing workforce.

Focus on Advanced Manufacturing:

The program covers a broad range of manufacturing technologies including machining, robotics, PLC programming, quality control, and basic maintenance, preparing graduates for divers roles on the shop floor.

Work-Integrated Learning:

A key feature of FAME is the “work-learn” approach, where students gain hands-on experience through paid internship or co-ops with a manufacturing partner, allowing them to apply classroom knowledge in a real-world setting.

Professional Development:

Beyond technical skills, the program emphasizes building soft skills like teamwork, communication, problem-solving, and safety practices, essential for success in a manufacturing environment.

Industry Recognition:

FAME is a nationally recognized program supported by the Manufacturing Institute, making the AMT certificate valuable to employers seeking qualified manufacturing technicians.

FAME interns concurrently complete the Associate of Applied Science in Advanced Manufacturing Technology-Maintenance concentration along with the Avanced Skill Set.  To be awarded the FAME Advanced Manufacturing Skill Set, students must complete the AAS in AMT-Maintenace, 1776 hours of FAME internship, and the skill set-specific courses.

Program Learning Outcomes

  • Demonstrate effective communication skills
  • Demonstrate teamwork and collaboration abilities
  • Apply relevant technical skills to manufacturing
